Knit Crown Pattern

Below is a pattern for two variations of a knit crown, which can be easily modified to fit a variety of head sizes.

Knit Crown Pattern

Use 2 ply of worsted weight yarn on US size 11 needles for a large crown (fits a head about 26 inches around), or use 1 ply of worsted weight yarn on US size 8 needles for a small crown (fits a head about 17 inches around)

Variation #1:

cast on 8 sts
Row 1: k 7, yo, k 1 {9 sts}
Row 2: k 3, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {9 sts}
Row 3: k 8, yo, k 1 {10 sts}
Row 4: k 4, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {10 sts}
Row 5: k 9, yo, k 1 {11 sts}
Row 6: k 5, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {11 sts}
Row 7: k 10, yo, k 1 {12 sts}
Row 8: k 6, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {12 sts}
Row 9: k 11, yo, k 1 {13 sts}
Row 10: k 7, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {13 sts}
Row 11: k 9, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {12 sts}
Row 12: k 6, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {12 sts}
Row 13: k 8, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {11 sts}
Row 14: k 5, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {11 sts}
Row 15: k 7, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {10 sts}
Row 16: k 4, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {10 sts}
Row 17: k 6, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {9 sts}
Row 18: k 3, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {9 sts}
Row 19: k 6, k 2 tog, k 1 {8 sts}
Row 20: k 2, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {8 sts}

Repeat Rows 1 through 20 about six times more, depending on how large you want the finished crown to be. Cast off. Stitch ends together to make a band. Decorate with buttons, beads, etc.


Variation #2:

cast on 8 sts
Row 1: k 7, yo, k 1 {9 sts}
Row 2: k 3, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {9 sts}
Row 3: k 8, yo, k 1 {10 sts}
Row 4: k 4, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {10 sts}
Row 5: k 9, yo, k 1 {11 sts}
Row 6: k 5, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {11 sts}
Row 7: k 10, yo, k 1 {12 sts}
Row 8: k 6, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {12 sts}
Row 9: k 11, yo, k 1 {13 sts}
Row 10: k 7, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {13 sts}
Row 11: k 3, loopy bobble*, k 7, yo, k 1 {14 sts}
Row 12: k 8, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {14 sts}
Row 13: k 10, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {13 sts}
Row 14: k 7, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {13 sts}
Row 15: k 9, k 2 tog, yo, k 2 tog {12 sts}
Row 16: k 6, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2 {12 sts}

*loopy bobble: [k 2, turn work] 11 times

Repeat Rows 1 though 24 about four times more, depending on how large you want the finished crown to be. Cast off. Stitch ends together to make a band. Decorate with buttons, beads, etc.

Check it out! I have a mirror, and camera, and a crown (the large version of Variation #1, to be exact)! This situation merits a serious thumbs up.
